Background Summary

The first project was a central mission station with a secondary school in Mount Darwin District. A suitable place with sufficient water was found in one of the outstations of Marymount, Fatima school, in Chief Chiweshe’s area. Fr. Kaibach had started a school in Chakoma in 1923, but Mgr Brown closed it down by Easter 1925. In 1949, the Seventh Day Adventists got Chakoma, but the people wanted “Roma” (Roman Catholic) again.

Thus in 1950, Chakoma could be restarted again. In 1950 Fr. Hannan wrote about his visits to the new outschool Fatima in Chiweshe, where” the catechist Damiano had taught catechism and prayers for the last two years” [1.c.since 1948). (MM V. p. 163/4).
