The next project was a new mission in the Dande reserve in the Zambezi Valley.

Already in September 1952 Fr. Kotzki and three Marist Brothers went to Chapoto (MM.V1 p 220). On 11.6.1953, Fr. Kotzki had chosen a site for the Chapoto School. Fr Pirog of Mutondwe was asked to help start it. This was the first foothold in Chitsungo parish.

After spending thousands of pounds looking for water in vain near the Utete River and elsewhere, Fr. Kotzki settled for the present place, near the Nyamoto Pool on the Hunyani River. He started St. Cecilia School in 1963. He put up a water tank and got bricks made for the mission. Due to his failing health, Fr. Joachim von Kerssenbrock, took on the work of starting the mission and building the community house. It was called St. Raphael. At that time, you needed an archangel to guide you safely to that place. Fr. von Kerssenbrock arrived in Chitsungo on 29.5.1964. On 29.6.1964, they started making bricks, on the first of September, the foundations were started and on 23.12.1964, the house was finished with thatched grass. All necessary work was completed in 1965. On 21.11.1969 the dispensary was blessed. In 1970, a hall and a hut for the priest were built in Chapoto, which serves as a church as well. At the Mission, in 1971, a bar was erected, and a boarding place for girls was built. In 1972 six bed-rooms for boys followed. Fr. Schmidt and Br. Millahn went on leave. Fr. Huwe came to help Fr. Kensy. In 1973, a kitchen with two dining rooms was built. During August 1973, about 2000 people were resettled at the “borehole”, among them about 200 Catholics. Mass had to be said in the ban.

On 01.02.1974 Sr. Kiliana OP, a trained nurse, arrived and the hospital got recognised and subsidised by the government.

A beautiful round church, thatched with grass, was built with the help of Br. Herbert Millahn and blessed on 22.5.1975 by Mg Reckter. Br. Millahn and Br. Gattung had added a nice bell tower. Br. Millahn was replaced by Br. Simon in March 1975. In July 1975, more families were resettled around the parish. The hospital had to be enlarged by an isolation ward. In December 1975, Br. Mapuranga joined the mission. On 20.09.1976 Fr. Freyer took the place of Fr. Schmidt. At the end of August 1977, Br. H. Simon left for his tertianship. At the end of 1977, the boarding place was shut down. Fr. Freyer had to leave the mission in 1978 because of the war. In June 1979, Br. Mapuranga and the LCBL Sisters also had to leave. The grass roofs of the church, convent, and community house burned down soon afterward. People were gathered into camps and Fr. Freyer visited them several times by air in Mushumbi.

After the war, the church was reopened on 10.4.1983 with a grass roof. In 1988 Br, Gattung and Fr. Hipler built a new community house. A larger convent for the LCBL followed in 1988/89, with 13 German volunteers
