As the Bishop of the Diocese of Chinhoyi, guided by the spirit of synodality, I exhort the Catholic faithful of this Diocese to work towards, Participation, Communion and Mission. As a synodal Church we go forth to evangelise, extending our mission, in communion with the people of God as they participate in the building of the Church in the Diocese of Chinhoyi. I recall that when I was consecrated as the third Bishop of this Diocese of Chinhoyi on the 7 th of April 2018 I prayed that the ‘Church should not die in my hands’. By this I meant that I had the responsibility to diligently attend to the duties attached to the office of bishop failure of which the Church would be destroyed by the negligence of its Shephard. It is, therefore, incumbent upon me together with the people of God to ensure the growth of the Diocese through the development of its structures and institutions. Each one of us is a co-worker in this vineyard of the Diocese of Chinhoyi entrusted to us by the Lord. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Mt 9:37). Let us volunteer our services in order to accomplish the work of the Lord given us at our Confirmation. We can, together, form a formidable and indefatigable team of evangelisers, men and women sent out to preach the good news to the whole Diocese. Together we must stand and we must succeed. Led by the Spirit of the Lord who conquered death, failure cannot be an option.
We all know that our Diocese has scanty infrastructure in the form of schools, hospitals and churches. This Strategic Plan outlines the work to be done so that by the end of five years, the Diocese will be evangelising through our refurbished old and new institutions. I call upon all priests, religious sisters, brothers, the laity, our stakeholders and the friends of the Diocese of Chinhoyi to work together to achieve the targets set in our Strategic Plan. May the Lord of the harvest bless you as you carry out your responsibilities in the vineyard of the Diocese of Chinhoyi.
