To be a pro-active and vibrant Catholic Social Communications centre which is at the heart of evangelisation in the Diocese of Chinhoyi.

To evangelise and promote collaboration in the church through vibrant/proactive church media house serves the community of Chinhoyi Diocese.

SOCCOM is a Catholic Commission which specialise in media productions and dissemination of information. The Commission for Social Communications oversees the entire communications network of the Catholic Diocese of Chinhoyi, with structural unity and respecting the relative operational characteristics, unifies the Diocese’s activities in the area of communication. It does so that the whole system responds in an integrated way to the needs of the Church’s evangelizing mission in a context characterized by the presence and development of traditional and digital media and by the factors of convergence and interactivity.

The Commission for Social Communications meets the needs of the Church’s evangelizing mission through the use of production models, technological innovations, and forms of communication currently available and those that may yet emerge.

In addition to the operational functions assigned to it, Social Communications widens the proper theological and pastoral aspects of the Church’s activity in the field of communication. In this sense, it also works on the level of training, to empower media practitioners with media skills to effectively communicate the message of the Gospel and to facilitate development and social cohesion within the community. It serves to give the people a voice and a platform to share the message of the Gospel, while it helps them to journey together in communion, participation, and in the mission of the Church.

It is the SOCCOM’s role to ensure that the faithful become increasingly aware of their own responsibility to commit themselves to the task of making the multiple means of communication available to the Church’s pastoral mission, in service to the growth of civilization and morality. SOCCOM raises this awareness through the celebration of Social Communications Sunday which falls on World Communications Day.

SOCCOM supports the communication activities of other curial institutions and offices, Commissions, and guilds associated with the Diocese of Chinhoyi.

SOCCOM Chinhoyi has different media entities that they use as vehicles for reaching out to people with news, information, and messaging and these include:

• Podcasts

SOCCOM Chinhoyi works in collaboration with the National Office for Social Communication under the Zimbabwe Episcopal Conference, and other diocesan communication offices. The Commission also collaborates with the circular public and private media through the sharing of information and coverage od events within the diocese.
